Level 1 Coaching Report
Aberdeenshire Cricket Club was well represented at the recent ECB Level One Cricket Coaching Course in Aberdeen which was run by Cricket Scotland.

The qualification is the first rung of the ladder in terms of recognised coaching qualifications, and is aimed at beginner coaches who will be able to assist more qualified coaches, delivering aspects of coaching sessions. The course will help the new coaches prepare for, deliver and review cricket coaching sessions. It will enable them to:

  • introduce and develop the game of cricket to people of all ages in a safe and enjoyable way
  • develop and improve players
  • develop coaching skills, knowledge and qualities
  • demonstrate competence against UKCC/National standards for coaches

The Club had six attendees in all - David Cox, Mark Byrne, Rene Van Oorschot, Richie Lamb, Andy Lewis and of course myself (Andy Innes). I am delighted to report that we all attained the necessary competence levels. This is a splendid achievement for the group and also for the Club. This will ensure there is a larger than ever number of qualified coaches assisting the excellent coaching staff that already look after the Mannofield club's growing band of junior players. We are all very much looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead this season and certainly hope to put to good use our newly attained coaching qualifications.

Although we all very willingly gave up several weekends to attend the Course, this was a tremendous experience. My thanks go not only to the Course Organisers and tutors for making the Course so enjoyable, but also to our Local Sports Council who provided much needed funding to allow all six of us to participate in the Course. A great couple of days were had by all and there were even a few things learnt about our own games too and this means that there will be no excuses for any failures this year!

The next stage of the National Coaching Scheme, the Level 2 course, is scheduled to take place in November and is already attracting some interest from the 'Shire Boys.
