Thorngrove Gardeners v ACC Development

On Sunday 21st August Mannofield hosted a friendly fixture in remembrance of the passing 20 years ago of Bruce Fenwick the Mannofield Captain and Ground Convener at the age of 36.

The fixture brought together many former players who have played with Bruce in the Mannofield Xl or the Thorngrove Gardners XI in the evening league and current club players who have progressed through the club from the junior section to senior cricket.

It was excellent to welcome Bruce’s parents, brothers and sons to join the day and speak to the players about Bruce. The gardeners captain Tyler gave a heartfelt speech about Bruce his attitude to playing the game and the influence, he had on many of the players playing today.

Thorngrove Gardeners :
Tyler Buchan, Andy Innes, Chris West, David Lawson, Tony Penman, Andy Thorogood, Shay Nanthakamuran, Duncan Elliott, Graeme Tomlinson, Graeme Johnston, David Smith

ACC Development Xl:
Stuart Horne, Lewis Munro, Joseph Horne, Aaayush Dasmahapatra, Findlay Anderson, Ben Horne, Clark Cameron, Aiden Haig, Rahul Chandu, Dian Forester

The gardeners elected to bowl first and Andy Thurgood got proceeding underway bowling the first ball to Development openers L Munro and A Dasmahapatra the current holder of the Bruce Fenwick Quaich and then retired to the boundary.

The development Xl closed their innings on 170 for 3 with retirals for L Munro 50, A Dashmahapatra 34, J Horne 29, C Cameron 29, a wicket apiece for Buchan, West and Smith.

The gardeners innings stuttered and lost wickets at regular intervals to leave them at 66/5 in the 10th over before a partnership between D Elliott 19 and A Penman 23 and some lusty hitting from T Buchan 22 lifted the score to 148.

A good match that reflected the criteria for the day to have fun and enjoy playing cricket the day was completed with a BBQ with the players, friends and family enjoying the sunshine.

A thank you goes to Ian Sutherland and Callum Howard for umpiring the game and chef Dale deNeef for running the BBQ.
